where did the name come from?

The name "Projet" is actually wordplay, it is not only a project on capturing the beauty of the coastline, but also about projecting the region into the spotlight of mainstream media.

why use the route 138 sign?

The use of the route 138 road sign is to make the connection between the basse côte nord and the rest of quebec. Ironically, there is no road connecting the regions.

what's to come

The plan for the upcoming spring is to take photographs to document the entire route blanche.

the basse côte nord is a region situated in the eastern part of the province of québec. it is a remote area along the shore of the gulf of st. lawrence that encompasses the beautiful coastal communities and stunning landscapes.

Route 138

route 138 is a major highway in quebec, canada. it spans across a significant portion of the province, running along the north shore of the st. lawrence river. this route offers scenic views of rivers, mountains, forest, and charming villages.

Route 138 "connecting" the Basse Côte Nord to Québec

route 138 begins outside montreal, stretching eastward towards quebec city before stopping at the village of kegaska. beyond kegaska, the road does not continue until reaching old fort bay, a town located several hundred kilometers away. from there, it extends further to the newfoundland border, marking the end of the route.

the absence of the road between kegaska and old fort bay isolates the towns significantly. this isolation creates a need for alternative modes of transportation when travelling between towns.

this isolation poses challenges for both locals and visitors, leading to increased expenses when travelling.

My name is Christopher Griffin, i'm currently studying International Business and Administration with a marketing major at Bishop's University, Qc. Art, especially photography, has always been a interest of mine, though I didn't pursue it in school. However, I still love practicing my skills on my spare time.

Leaving the coast for my education, I was surprised by the lack of knowledge about the coast, despite it's geographical size. My aim is to shift this narrative by establishing a platform that promotes the region, ultimately boosting tourism and subsequently enhancing business in the area.

Projet138 is where I get to merge my passions, showcase photography of the coast, all while raising awareness about the area.
